Construction Tools To Use When Placing Concrete

Blog

Construction workers who work with concrete must place the concrete properly to ensure the integrity of the construction project. This can be done more easily with the use of a concrete placement hopper. This is essentially like a funnel that allows you to control exactly where the concrete will pour.

Hoppers

The concrete hopper needs to be made out of a material such as polyurethane to ensure that it is sturdy so that it doesn't fail as concrete pours through it. It must also be reinforced to ensure that it is able to support the weight of the concrete. There are several types of hoppers to choose from. The most common is the center discharge vertical hopper. This type is considered one of the most versatile. The second most common is the vertical front discharge. This is used when the concrete needs to be positioned in a narrow form with a wheelbarrow or cart.

Tremie, Collars and Buckets

The tremie is a chute through which the concrete drops vertically. The tremie is attached to the hopper using a chain. The tremie is attached to the collar. There are also extension collars that allow for the capacity of the buckets to be increased.

Collars and Elephant Trunks

The elephant trunk is used to control the concrete placement. The collar clamps to the trunk. The length of the elephant trunk is based on the needs of the concrete project. Construction workers might need a shorter trunk to control concrete slab placement. The trunk and clamp are sleeved over the opening and secured to the hopper. The suspended steel sub-hopper is often used in combination with the elephant trunk to perform a deep and confined pour.

Transit Mix Deflectors and Chutes

If you need to connect one part of the concrete delivery system with a part that is more narrow, use a transit mix deflector. You might use a transit mix deflector when using drop chutes. Straight line chutes are used to direct concrete in a horizontal direction. Steel drop chutes, on the other hand, are used when the concrete will enter a free fall. The side chutes for buckets direct concrete discharge to the side.

There are several other types of concrete construction tools you can choose from. Speak with a dealer who sells concrete delivery systems so that you can determine if there is a better solution for your particular project.

Making Your Yard Sing

Last summer, I took a good, hard look at my yard. I realized that in addition to having more than a few issues with flowerbeds, the land grading was completely off. Instead of ignoring the issue, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I rented a little tractor, and I used it to move soil, take down trees, and dig out unsightly bushes. Although it encompassed my schedule for a few weeks, the end result was well worth the hassle. If you are interested in making your yard better, read more about how you might be able to use heavy machinery on my page.
